Iron is the most abundant metal on Earth since most of its core is iron. It is also the most used metal Earth. In the 14th century iron was considered a precious metal because of its rareness.
The name “iron” comes from the Scandinavian “iarn”. There have been lots of stories about the origin of iron, from a spiritual or religious point of view, to a more astronomical standpoint. The reality is that iron is one of the most produced elements in the Earth’s core and therefore we can find it in many ores in nature.
Archaeologists believe that the Bronze Age came before the Iron, since there are more bronze utensils that iron ones. Bronze is easier to extract and create, but the lack of copper and the abundance of iron leads to believe that ancient civilizations abandoned bronze as a utensil.
